Mr.
When a water filter can remove water borne diseases from standing water like if the power goes out for a couple weeks every once in awhile when a hurricane passes by here in SWFL and the filters last for over 20 years, what's not to like? I have mine set up in the kitchen on a bar stool and use BigGulp cups to fill the upper chamber twice weekly. Twice a year carefully remove the filters and scrape them gently with virgin ScothcBrite pads til you see the surface of the ceramic look new again. Once the filters are removed by unscrewing the plastic wingnuts that secure them just rub the pad for several seconds each and rinse and reinstall. Used for cooking and coffee and of course filling my drink glasses with the pure stuff. Just looked at Berkey and though attractive, don't like the cost that will incur with the amount of filters that will have to be purchased for life on that thing. NO THANKS!! Heard them on some news shows and thought i would compare to my AquaRain. Looks like a copy cat system with lesser quality filters. If you want something that'll last years and years with very little maintenance, THIS IS THE ONE!! If the rating system went to 10 stars, I would enter that!!

At my parents' estate sale, I picked up their Aquarain and took it to my off grid, off road cabin. After a couple of months, I took a water sample into town for testing. The scientist was laughing at me, saying that he had not seen such clean water! I use it to filter both roof catch and snow melt. I have changed the filters once in 15 years. I am checking out the Berkey for use in my "city" home, but cannot figure why I need so many filters. I trust the new Aquarain I purchase for "in town" will have the same strong stainless steel as the one that is more than 30 years old. do not understand what all the fuss is about berkey; perhaps nobody realizes that it is TIME going through the filters that aids the cleaning process. ? Just buy the original.....Aquarain. Fill it with water when you go to bed. Duh.
